About 2011 Census

Every five years Statistics New Zealand takes an official count of the population and dwellings in New Zealand. Statistics New Zealand will conduct the next Census of Population and Dwellings on Tuesday, 8 March 2011.

Information about the census

• 2011 Census testing strategy focuses on conducting a more effective and efficient census.
• March 2009 Census test was the first field test leading up to the 2011 Census. It was a small scale test used to trial specific parts of the census process.
