International Travel and Migration: August 2009
Highlights
- Visitor arrivals (161,100) were down 1 percent from August 2008 (162,500).
- There were more visitors from Australia (up 9,200), but fewer visitors from Japan (down 3,500), Korea (down 2,100), and China (down 1,900).
- Departures of New Zealand residents (176,300) were unchanged from August 2008.
- New Zealand residents departed on more trips to Australia (up 3,600), but fewer trips to the United States (down 1,400).
- Permanent and long-term arrivals exceeded departures by 1,600 on a seasonally adjusted basis.
